RENO, Nevada – On Oct. 12, 2023, representatives from University of Nevada, Reno and developer Edgemoor Infrastructure & Real Estate were joined by University students, faculty and staff, elected officials, and local business leaders for the ceremonial groundbreaking of the new College of Business Building in the Mathewson Gateway, an urban corridor that will feature a mix of academic and research uses.
The project, which includes a state-of-the-art College of Business Building and an adjacent hospitality/conference venue, will create a physical link between the University and downtown Reno and catalyze growth for the region. Edgemoor financed the College of Business Building through a lease-leaseback structure, which allows the University to preserve debt capacity for other needs.
The five-story, 128,000-square-foot College of Business Building will provide a full range of spaces tailored to best practices in modern business education, including a 300-seat auditorium, advanced technology labs, case-method optimized teaching spaces, a student commons, team meeting spaces and collaboration zones, faculty and administrative offices, a landscaped courtyard, outdoor plazas, and a mix of student and community outreach programs that foster entrepreneurship and innovation.
The new College of Business Building will create economic, social, and educational impacts that transform lives, grow the city’s already thriving tech and financial economy, and provide workforce and intellectual capacity to meet its needs.
“This project is important not only for our University students, faculty, and staff, but also for the our region,” University President Brian Sandoval, said. “The University’s College of Business has produced the business leaders of our region, our state, and our world for a long time now. With this new business building, the college and the community will take a quantum leap forward in this leadership role and the special connection and mission of engagement the College of Business has always had with our city and our state.”
The full-block development includes site and landscape improvements to promote a variety of flexible and functional outdoor spaces. The building will have multiple points of entry at both Levels One and Two that will enhance programmatic adjacencies between internal programs and external context, encouraging spontaneous collaboration and active learning. It will increase student success by providing learning spaces modeled on up-to-date best practices in business pedagogy and instruction. Inside, a full range of spaces dedicated to student instruction are tailored to best practices in modern business education.

The Edgemoor team for the College of Business Building includes Clark Construction, a national contractor with experience successfully delivering over 100 higher education projects on campuses across the country, as design-builder; and LMN Architects, a firm that is considered a leader in the design of higher education facilities in North America, as designer.
